What is a blog?

Blog is short for “Web log.” A web log is essentially a website that displays content (“postings”) as one big ream of information that can be viewed at a glance in chronological order (or viewed one posting per page). Blogs have made the web more fun and conversational. Postings can be a couple of sentences, thousands of words or a solitary image or video.

Before blogging, web pages were more formal and rigid. It was difficult for the average person to share thoughts, ideas and information quickly and easily.

Managing a blog is much like using web-based email (Hotmail, Gmail, etc.). You log in, click “create new posting” and start typing. The software handles all of the technicalities (coding and formatting the page, inserting links on the home page, etc.).
